"Chronicles of Hair Growth" is a series of 7 prints (and accompanying animation) documenting cyclical hair growth of a man's beard. A single plate was etched in succession five times, scraped and burnished twice. Each print records the state of the plate in its succession. The finished prints are displayed linearly recalling narrative cycles of time: moon cycle, fetus growth, or the rotating earth, placing the simple seasonal hair-growth cycle among those of more perceived importance. Printmaking processes are historically associated with documentation and pedagogy in the form of books, field guides, and maps. In this instance it is documentation of slow, unperceived movement that is capable of measuring time much like the rising moon and sun, suggesting the place of humans no more outside of nature or natural processes than that which we use to mark nature and seasons.
